I sat down to write a poem

Explaining things that beg explanation:

The Big Bang

Blue notes

What to pack for the afterlife

A charge from a motel in Nashville.

 

I started to write a poem

Apologizing for my cheatin’ heart

But stopped at “beg,” which means:

To ask

Plead

Evade

Difficult to define, harder to rhyme.

 

I gave up on the poem

And instead wrote a song about:

Trust

Betrayal

Heartbreak

And what to pack for a weekend in Nashville.

You know how much I like country music.
